Chapter 25
1. What is Cole's idea to cure Peter's depression? How does Edwin react to this suggestion?
Cole's idea is that Peter needs to soak in the pond, carry the ancestor rock, learn how to be invisible, to dance around the fire, carve his totem and see The Spirit Bear. Edwin doesn't think it is simple for Peter to come.

2. Do you think it is a good idea for Peter to visit the island?
Yes, because he has to learn that Cole has changed and try to forgive Cole.

3. About 2 weeks after Cole's suggestion, who arrives on the island?
Garvey, Edwin, Peter, Mr. and Mrs. Driscal.

4. Peter blurts "Leave me alone, I don't need your help!" to Cole. How is this situation similar to Cole's initial feelings about Garvey and Edwin? How is it different?
Because Cole had changed after what happened. But, Peter didn't change after what happened.

Chapter 26
1. Peter does not want to sleep in the cabin with Cole. What arrangements are made for Cole's living quarters while Peter is on the island?
Cole sleeps in the tent, outside, in the rain.

2. Do you think that Edwin purposely brought a leaky tent?
No, because he's trying not to be mean to Cole.

3. Peter shows some signs of embracing to Cole's island practices. What are they?
Soak in the pond, carry the ancestor rock, carve the totem and dance around the fire.

4. Why do you think Peter threw the rock at Cole and later tossed him into the water?
Because Peter was mad at Coke at what happened a year ago.

Chapter 27
1. What does Peter tell Cole when he lets him into the cabin? What does Peter do the following days that show he dislikes Cole?
"Why haven't we seen The Spirit Bear yet?". Peter walked in his muddy boots on Cole's sleeping bag, twice, knocked down Cole's jacket, left the bathroom door wide open, opened the door to make Cole freezing and destroyed the bear carving.

2. What does Cole convince Peter to do after destroying the bear on his totem pole?
Cole told Peter to find another log for Peter's own totem.

3. What does Cole say about the quality of carvings on the two boys' totem poles?
Cole said, "If you see an animal, you do the dance and carve it on the totem.".

4. What does Peter do to Cole's totem pole at the end of the chapter? What does this say about the change in Peter's attitude towards Cole?
Peter fixed the bear carving on Cole's totem. Well, I don't know how to say it but Peter said, "Depends if you want to learn.".

Chapter 28
1. Peter asks Garvey not to accompany Cole to the pond. Why does he do this?
So Peter can beat Cole up..."SHOCKING!".

2. Why does Cole not fight back?
Because Cole changed and didn't want to hurt Peter again.

3. Do you think Cole deserved the beating he received from Peter?
No, because Cole really didn't mean to hurt Peter.

4. Cole states "I don't think I'll ever heal from what I did to you, but I'm sorry, Peter. I really am sorry.". What then happens?
Peter knelted down, crying and The Spirit Bear appeared.

5. As the book closes, Peter states "What makes you think I forgave you?". Do you think Peter has forgiven Cole?
Yes, because Peter finally saw The Spirit Bear and felt so sorry for hurting Cole.

Victim Impact Statement from "T.S.B."

Dear, Your Honor, My name is Mr. Driscal. and this is an Victim Impact Statement about my son, Peter.
On November 2, 2001 at 5:23 pm on a windy day in Kamloops, BC, Canada...Peter ratted on Cole for breaking into, robbing and trashing a hardware store. He may not have caught it if he didn't brag about it at school. Cole had picked on Peter many times prior to this vicious attack. In the hall, Cole sees Peter and says "You're a dead man!". After school, Cole pounded Peter bloody, hit him hard in the face with bare fists. Peter then tripped and fell to the ground when he tried to escape. Cole then jumped on him again and started smashing his head against the sidewalk. Took 6 other students to pull Cole off. By then my son was cowering on a blood-smeared sidewalk sobbing. Cole laughed and continued to spit at Peter as he lay there. After Cole's vicious attack on Peter, Cole was sent to the detention centre until they decide what to do with him.

Dear, Your Honor, My name is Mr. Driscal, again. As parents, we are distraught about our son's condition. Cole's vicious attack on my son, Peter has physically caused brain trauma and slurred speech and diminished coordination. Peter was hospitalized and doctors reported that he might suffer permanent damage. It is unknown if he will get better. Emotionally, Peter wakes up every night with vivid nightmares, often crying and screaming in panic. Peter feels helpless as we do as parents. He often feels embarrassed around his peers as he couldn't fight back. Peter is worried of what kids think of him. Peter doesn't feel any connections emotionally, physically and socially. Peter wants to belong but Cole has taken that away. Socially, Peter is shy, quiet and terrified. He's more terrified of Cole's presence after that moment forward. He too harbors anger now, but directed towards Cole.

Dear, Your Honor again, it's Mr. Driscal, again. I think that Cole should go to juvenille hall and then prison because Cole injured my son, Peter. By Cole going to juvenille hall, he'll learn his lesson to have courses, managements and being alone and scared and has to think of what he has done to Peter. I just hope Peter will get better soon and will not have slurred speech and brain trauma again. Cole will have to be banished to prison for one whole year and after that, we'll have to see if he's allowed to be free.

The main characters in T.S.B. are Cole, Garvey and Edwin.

Cole is a 15 year old boy who is having many behaviour issues and has abusive parents. He is very aggressive, mean and thinks everyone owes him. Garvey is a wisecracking Tlingit parole officer from Minneapolis. He is trying to be friends with and guide Cole. Edwin is a Tlingit tribe elder who wants Cole to improve. He used to be wise and know how to heal Cole.

The secondary characters in T.S.B. are Peter, Mr. Driscal, William M., Cindy M. and Rosey.

Peter is a ninth grader who's beaten up by Cole and traumatized and possibly has brain damage, nightmares and fear of Cole. Mr. Driscal is Peter's father who doesn't trust Cole. William M. is Cole's drunk father and has a physically and verbally abusive temper. Cindy M. is Cole's mother who's scared of Cole's drunk father and her personality is very weak. Rosey is a nurse who looked after Cole from his bear attack with a caring personality.

Circle Justice is Native-American form that heals the offender, victim and the community surrounding circle.

The Spirit Bear is a mythical, white ghost bear who appears and vanishes as Cole sees the bear and the bear is curious about Cole. The Spirit Bear attacks Cole laying there for dead comes back and stares over him. The Spirit Bear continues to walk away.

Cole gave Peter head trauma, speech problems, broken into a hardware store and has done many crimes of the past. That's why he was sent to an Alaskan remote island.

What I learned about this aboriginal culture is The Kermode Bear and Circle Justice and how the people respect and live off the land and animals and nature and they look for healing instead of serious punishment.
